Description

Hacquetia epipactis  (also known as Sanicula epipactis)  is a charming herbaceous perennial, the flowers of which can appear as early as January. It first produces clusters of minute flowers with golden centres surrounded by a lime green bract or ruff. These continue to appear well into the spring, alongside a dense expanse of glossy emerald-green leaves that will then provide a good foliage display throughout the growing season. It grows close to the ground providing a carpet of fresh green and yellow hues, and makes a perfect partner for your early spring bulbs. It is a hardy perennial, and a good clump-former as a result of its short rhizomes, and year on year can ultimately spread up to 50 cm.

They have been awarded the Award of Garden Merit (AGM) by the Royal Horticultural Society under its alternative name Sanicula epipactis. For more information, please see the RHS website as follows:-

As a woodland native, this perennial prefers partial shade and a moist, well drained soil so is well suited to shaded borders and rock gardens. Ensure the ground has been enriched with compost before planting.

Hacquetia epipactis are propagated and grown by us on the Twelve Nunns Nursery, a specialist nursery based in South Lincolnshire.
