Anemone

Wood anemone (Anemone nemorosa) produce pretty flowers over attractive, dissected foliage. They are spring flowering, low growing to a height of 10cm and form a carpet of flowers over time.  Their ideal planting companions are our Erythronium. See our Planting Suggestions for more details.

Our varieties of Anemone nemorosa are one of the first flowers to appear in early spring and are a welcome sight. They are part of the buttercup family Ranunculaceae and the single white flowering form is a British native. They thrive in lightly shaded areas with a well-drained soil. In its natural habitat this plant grows under deciduous trees, flowering before the trees come into leaf so is a perfect low growing plant under trees and shrubs and look particularly appealing when planted in drifts. Becoming dormant in the Summer, they then overwinter as slender rhizomes just beneath the soil surface.
